Lammey: Value for Trevor Siemian ‘elevated’ thanks to Nick Foles

Feb 21, 2018, 4:27 PM

Could the best thing that happened for the Denver Broncos and Trevor Siemian be Nick Foles’ MVP performance Super Bowl LII?

Both Mike Pritchard and Cecil Lammey, hosts of “Pritchard and Cecil,” said that Foles coming off the bench and leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a world championship could have bumped up the market value for Siemian, whom the Broncos have reportedly made available via trade.

“Siemian’s value may be a little bit elevated because of what we saw from Nick Foles,” Lammey said. “So, should we be looking for more than a sixth- or seventh-round pick?”

“Sure. Why not?” Prichard said. “He’s a former starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos. He’s a guy that he’s still young enough … you’ve got to sell the team, your potential trade partner, on his upside.”

Pritchard also correlated the play of Minnesota Vikings backup Case Keenum and the monster contract former New England Patriots backup-turned-San Francisco 49ers starter inked earlier this month with a potential spike in interest in Siemian.

“… All these cases of backup quarterbacks coming in playing at a high level helps Trevor Siemian. Absolutely,” Pritchard said.

In the end, Pritchard said it’d be a win for the Broncos if they could get anything in return for its 2017 opening day starter.

“Is it a sixth-rounder. Is it a seventh-rounder. Is a player even? If it’s an upgrade, if it’s a player that helps your roster, then you’ve got to go out and do that,” Pritchard said. “You’ve got to find that trade partner.

“But if you don’t, then you know you’re probably going to release Trevor Siemian later on this year.”

A draft pick is an ideal return for Siemian, Pritchard said, even if it’s a late-rounder.

“I want a pick. I would absolutely love a draft pick in return for Trevor Siemian, even a late-round pick,” Pritchard said. “Malik Jackson was a fifth-rounder. Danny Trevathan was a sixth-rounder. And those guys helped you win a Super Bowl in 2015.”

A seventh-round draft pick (250th overall) by the Broncos in the 2015 NFL Draft, Siemian’s cap hit for the 2018 season would be $1.9 million with a dead cap of just $13,198, according to Spotrac.com.
