Could Rams be landing spot for Broncos CB Talib amid trade rumors

The uncertain future between Aqib Talib and the Denver Broncos could lead to a reunion between him and his former defensive coordinator.

After an initial report last week from WalterFootball.com’s Charlie Campbell saying the Broncos would “probably shop Talib this offseason,” news of the All-Pro cornerback’s uncertain future in Denver resurfaced again Sunday.

Among the teams suggested as a potential landing spot for Talib was the Los Angeles Rams, according to Fan Football Insider Cecil Lammey, which would set up a reunion with the cornerback’s former defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.

During Phillips’ latest tenure with the Broncos in 2015 and 2016, the team’s secondary ranked No. 1 in pass defense in back-to-back seasons, giving up 199.56 and 185.75 yards passing per game, respectively.

During those two years, Talib earned Pro Bowl nods and was selected as a first-team All-Pro in 2016.

Talib is due to make $11 million in the 2018 season with a dead cap hit of $1 million. He’s due $8 million in 2019 with no dead cap hit.
