The Drive with DMac & Chad Brown LIVE in studio! Oklahoma Sooners Beat Writer Cody Stavenhagen joins the show to say Baker Mayfield is considered as one of the most dedicated players to ever come through OU. Mark Schlereth joins the show to talk to DMac & Chad about his twitter beef with Baker Mayfield. GM of the Colorado Rockies Jeff Bridich joins the show to say the Rockies are trying to bring in as many quality arms as they can, including Wade Davis, and the bullpen staying healthy will be critical to the Rockies’ 2018 success.
DMac asks Chad Brown about getting Gary Kubiak back in the fold, and the guys run through shaky coaching situations across the NFL like the New York Giants & Indianapolis Colts. Chad asks DMac if he realizes what happens when you fire a coach, and the guys bring up popular names as replacements, such as Jon Gruden. Also, DMac says Gary Kubiak is a football lifer. DMac asks Chad if there’s significance in Gary Kubiak going to watch the Cotton Bowl with Elway, and Chad rattles through NFL teams that could see a shakeup at head coach. Also, the guys start to become fascinated with Mason Rudolph. Oklahoma Sooners Beat Writer Cody Stavenhagen joins the show to say Baker Mayfield is considered as one of the most dedicated players to ever come through OU, but still needs to go somewhere with structure in the NFL Draft, and could help himself by putting twitter away. Cody tells DMac & Chad Baker is polished, smart & charismatic, and will have to sell himself to coaches & GMs. Also, Cody quells the rumors that Mayfield has an arrogant mentality similar to Johnny Manziel. Listen to the interview HERE!
Sam Darnold says he will play for any NFL team, and DMac asks Chad if he understands the ripple effect from Gary Kubiak’s expanded role with the Broncos. The guys compare John Elway’s trust & communication with Kubiak to his trust & communication with VJ. Also, why Elway didn’t like McCoy. Mark Schlereth joins the show to talk to DMac & Chad about his twitter beef with Baker Mayfield. Mark explains why the Heisman trophy is a ‘garbage’ award and how DMac may be rubbing off on him. Mark says his comments on twitter were on the awards process & not Baker himself, and would like to see the trophy go to the best football player overall, and not just the RBs & QBs. Mark highlights Terrell Suggs & Champ Bailey’s college stats, and notes that they didn’t even get a sniff at the Heisman, and it doesn’t represent the best college player. Also, Chad turns the screws on Mark about Baker’s personality & if Mayfield is due for a slice of some humble pie. Listen to the interview HERE! GM of the Colorado Rockies Jeff Bridich joins the show to say the Rockies are trying to bring in as many quality arms as they can, including Wade Davis, and the bullpen staying healthy will be critical to the Rockies’ 2018 success. Bridich tells DMac & Chad it’s tough to whittle down the mantra to a bumper sticker, but the pitching & defense became priority when he took over as GM, and he knew management would have to take some calculated risks to find success. Listen to the interview HERE!
DMac says the Broncos need to get on the same page, and Chad questions if Denver is in position to execute their plan. DMac says it’s time to give the broncos coaches some credit, and Aqib isn’t stupid, just immature. Also, whether or not Denver makes a big move to land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Chad & DMac discuss Kubiak’s role moving forward & credibility with Elway. DMac asks the listeners if we should hate Aqib Talib, and how this situation in Denver got so sticky.
