Broncos place linebacker Shane Ray (wrist) on injured reserve

Dec 19, 2017, 12:50 PM | Updated: 4:12 pm

Another Denver Broncos starter has fallen victim to a season-ending injury, the club officially placed linebacker Shane Ray on injured reserve Tuesday afternoon.

First reported by NFL Network’s James Palmer, Ray lands on IR just a few days after having surgery to remove screws in his wrist stemming from an injury he suffered during training camp.

Late Tuesday morning in a post to Twitter, Ray hinted that he would likely miss the remainder of the 2017 season.

“Life comes at you sometimes and you have to make the best of things. After my 3rd wrist surgery it’s time that I get healthy so that I can be the best I can be,” Ray wrote. “As always I appreciate the love and support and I’m looking forward to what we will be as a team next season!”

Ray becomes the fifth Denver starter to land on IR in the month of December alone, joining defensive end Derek Wolfe, safety Justin Simmons, guard Ron Leary, and quarterback Trevor Siemian.

It’s also the second time Ray’s been designated to the list this season. The pass rusher was activated from IR in October per a new NFL rule that allows two players to return to the active roster during the season.

In eight games played in 2017, Ray recorded 10 tackles and one sack.
