Broncos WRs Sanders, McKenzie out vs. Chargers, Siemian ‘fine’

Oct 16, 2017, 2:04 PM

The New York Giants left the Denver Broncos bruised and battered on the scoreboard Sunday night, but the club avoided a handful of what looked to be nasty injuries.

Both wide receivers Emmanuel Sanders and Isaiah McKenzie needed a cart to get back to the locker room during the 23-10 loss to New York, but MRIs on Monday indicated only sprained right ankles for each.

Head coach Vance Joseph said during his weekly press conference Monday afternoon that McKenzie and Sanders would miss Sunday’s road tilt against the Los Angeles Chargers and would be week-to-week following the game.

An MRI on the non-throwing shoulder of starting quarterback Trevor Siemian also “came back positive,” Joseph said, and he’ll be “fine” to go Sunday.

Siemian briefly left Sunday night’s bout just before halftime after injuring the shoulder attempting to make a tackle on what would be a pick-six by Giants cornerback Jenoris Jenkins.

ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported Monday that Siemian has a “minor sprain” but should be able to play against Los Angeles.

Siemian’s injury occurred to the same shoulder that had Siemian out a handful of games last season and needed offseason surgery to correct.

The injuries, which also included a bruise to Demaryius Thomas’ leg, came against, coincidentally, the Giants, who lost its top three wide receivers — Odell Beckham Jr, Brandon Marshall, and Sterling Shepard — the previous week to injury.

They also come on the heels of the Broncos bye week, wherein Joseph said the club was “very lucky” to be as healthy as they were heading into the break.
