The Drive with Big Al & DMac LIVE in studio! A nice win for the Colorado Rockies & an even better story for Chad Bettis, as he goes 7 shutout innings against the Atlanta Braves. The Broncos will keep every practice this year open to the media, and DMac notes that most NFL teams don’t do this. Troy Renck joins the show with his overall thoughts on Chad Bettis’ performance last night at Coors Field, and Troy mentions how he had goosebumps for three hours. Renck talks about Bettis’ motivation to help his team, and how fans have forgotten that Bettis was once the leader of this Rockies pitching staff. Also, Al asks Troy if there is any chance Kyle Sloter makes a roster & Troy says Sloter has done a ton of work since the beginning of Spring, but he only has one quarter left to show the Broncos what he can do.
A nice win for the Colorado Rockies & an even better story for Chad Bettis, as he goes 7 shutout innings against the Atlanta Braves. DMac has beef with Bud Black’s mindset when it comes to bunting, and wanted the one run more than basic baseball strategy may suggest. Charlie Blackmon gets a clutch triple, and Carlos Gonzalez comes up huge for Chad Bettis, even though DMac wishes it was one inning earlier. Dmac remembers Super Bowl 50 and hanging out with the players in San Francisco without Cecil, and C.J. Anderson sends Cecil a ‘where are you’ text. DMac asks Al if he was pumping Team Sloter today in the WAR ROOM, and Al says he’d be upset to be Demaryius or Emmanuel taking pointless snaps with Paxton & the first team on Saturday. DMac tells Al what VJ & Co. plan to do with Jamaal Charles, and spotlights the upcoming Packers preseason game as Jamaal’s time to shine. The Broncos will keep every practice this year open to the media, and DMac notes that most NFL teams don’t do this. NFL players are taking a knee for the National Anthem & Ryan Mathews is cut from the Philadelphia Eagles. Dmac says NFL running backs live out their careers in dog years, and are usually done by the age of 29. Big Al paints a scenario where Peyton Manning is still playing football, and says there is a huge void without him.
Dmac tells Big Al the Broncos should stay away from drafting a QB in the first round, and has the numbers to back it. DMac says history tells us Paxton needs another year to get ready, but we may not have that kind of time. Dmac says if you’re going to move up in the NFL draft, go way up, and Paxton is stuck on a developmental path. Al goes through the list of players acquired in the RG3 deal, and DMac says Paxton is not Elway, Favre or Marino. Listen to the interview HERE!
Dmac asks VJ what we can expect when it comes to number of snaps for the Broncos three QBs, and why Jamaal Charles isn’t playing this week in San Francisco. Big Al mentions cut-down day as a big deal, and isn’t sure Paxton would make the same reads that Trevor & Kyle have been making this preseason. What Chad Kelly is up to during the preseason, and what happens with Kelly & Butt when practice is over. Big Al notes Trevor’s ability to avoid mistakes, and the guys agree Trevor learned what the coaches wanted. Also, DMac notes why someone has to stand between Kelly & Butt and Al says who could get cut.
