A year removed from his first training camp, it appears Paxton Lynch has made strides toward the starting quarterback role with the Denver Broncos.
“Stokley & Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley said on Tuesday that as recently as the last few days he spoke with a member of the Broncos offense who said that Lynch, who struggled at times during his rookie season, is not the same quarterback as a year ago.
“Paxton Lynch is a different quarterback right now than he ever was last year. End of story,” Stokley said.
Stokley said the comments reinforced what he had seen from the brief glimpse of Lynch from the sidelines at OTAs, that he’s progressed from year one to year two.
“He’s a different guy this year, a totally different guy out there on the football field,” Stokley said, adding that the source said Lynch had made some plays that made him go, “Wow.”
Stokley’s remarks come on the heels of not only a five-year contract extension for Broncos general manager John Elway but also the re-hiring of former head coach Gary Kubiak to a role as a personnel advisor.
“The Drive” co-host Alfred Williams said on Monday that as soon as the ink dried on Elway’s extension, Lynch became the front runner, if not the winner, of the Broncos starting quarterback job.
“John Elway is now solidified here for another five years. Look, man, if it doesn’t work we’ll just start over. Go get another quarterback,” Williams said.
