How the seeds are determined:

Stanton earned the top seed by virtue of winning the 2016 Home Run Derby in San Diego.

From there, MLB.com reports that seeds were determined by how many home runs in 2017 each participant had hit.

At that point, the order went (with the number of home runs between June 15 and Wednesday as the tiebreaker):

» Judge (28 homers)

» Bellinger (24)

» Moustakas (24)

» Sano (20)

» Blackmon (18)

» Bour (18)

» Sanchez (13)

Format and rules:

» Single-elimination bracket with three total rounds

» Higher seed hits second in each bracket

» Four-minute turns at bat with the clock starting upon the release of the first pitch

» The round ends should the second player exceed the number of home runs hit by the first

» One, 45-second timeout is allotted in both the first and semifinal rounds. Each hitter gets two in the finals, 45 seconds and 30 seconds in duration.

» Players earn 30 seconds of bonus time with two home runs traveling 440 feet or farther

» A 60-second swing-off will be used in the case of a tie
