Report: Nuggets, forward Paul Millsap agree on 3-year, $90M deal

The Denver Nuggets hooked one of the biggest, if not the biggest, free agent fishes Sunday night, reportedly signed forward Paul Millsap to a three-year, $90 million deal.

Yahoo Sports’ The Vertical reports that Millsap finalized the agreement on Sunday after he met with the Nuggets delegation on Saturday, which included Denver Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall.

Millsap, drafted in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz, returns to the Western Conference after spending four years with the Atlanta Hawks, where he was an all-star each season.

In 2016-’17, the 6-foot-8, 246-pound power forward averaged 18.1 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, stats that put near the top of each category compared to Nuggets players last season.

Known for his defensive prowess, Millsap was selected to the 2006-’07 second-team All-Rookie and the 2015-’16 second-team All-Defense squads.

Twice Millsap’s ranked among top 10 in the NBA in defensive rating and defensive win shares (2014-’15 and 2015-’16), coming in first in the latter category in 2015-’16.

The agreement would make Millsap the highest-paid Nuggets player as the team is currently constructed, with Kenneth Faried the next highest with a cap figure of nearly $13 million next season, per spotrac.com.
