Danilo Gallinari, a key piece in the trade that sent Carmelo Anthony from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks, will reportedly decline his player option or next season to test the free agency waters this summer.
According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Gallinari will pass up the $16.1 million to become one of the marquee forwards available come July, a group that includes Gordon Hayward of the Utah Jazz, Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers, and Paul Millsap of the Atlanta Hawks.

Gallinari, who will turn 29 in August, heads into free agency coming off two seasons in which he played the most minutes per game (34.7 in 2015-16 and 33.9 last season) and the most points per games (19.5 and 18.2) of his career.
Despite opting out, Gallinari could return to the Nuggets next season and beyond, as the Denver Post’s Nick Kosmider reports that general manager Tim Connelly said bringing back Gallo would be a part of the “offseason blueprint.”
