Broncos, NFL players and coaches react to DeMarcus Ware’s retirement

As John Elway took the podium at UCHealth Training Center after the introduction of the Denver Broncos newest defensive linemen, Zach Kerr and Domata Peko, the word on DeMarcus Ware was he was to test the free agency waters after three seasons in orange and blue.

Elway said he told Ware, “I never say never,” and the Broncos were open to everything and seeing how things go.

“He’s going to test the market and see what is out there,” Elway said. “I told him that was probably the best thing to do at this point in time, but that we’d stay in touch and see where he was.”

Shortly following that press conference, Ware revealed on his social media channels that he would be retiring after 12 seasons in the NFL.

Ware said he was going to hang up his cleats and begin his journey to his “next destination.”

And as the surprising announcement spread, tributes and congratulations poured in for the future Hall of Famer.
