Klis: Broncos give Studesville ‘well-deserved’ assistant HC title

Time to update the business cards for Denver Broncos running backs coach Eric Studesville.

The longtime NFL coach, who has directed the Broncos running backs from 2010 to 2016, will reportedly add “assistant head coach” to his title with the team.

Mike Klis, 9News Broncos Insider who first reported the title bump, told 104.3 The Fan’s “The Drive” on Monday that move is a “promotion of sorts” for Studesville and he thought he’d have a little more responsibility alongside head coach Vance Joseph.

“He gets a little title, it’s a promotion of sorts, I would think it means he’ll be a little more involved in wide-ranging coaching aspects with Vance Joseph, probably means a little more money, and so good for Eric,” Klis said.

Having survived the offensive coaching staff overhaul, along with wide receiver coach Tyke Tolbert, Studesville has coached under four different regimes for Denver — Josh McDaniels, John Fox, Gary Kubiak and now Joseph.

He’ll retain his responsibilities of running backs coach as well, Klis said Monday.

Denver’s rushing production under Studesville dropped in 2016, outpacing just a handful of teams in 27th place, but has been relatively consistent across the past seven season.

Studesille did lead the Brocnos to the league’s top-ranked rushing offense in 2011, thanks in part to quarterback Tim Tebow.

During the offseason, Studesville was a candidate for the offensive coordinator position with the New York Jets, but that opening was filled by New Orleans Saints wide receivers coach John Mornon.
