Klis: Broncos 3-game set ‘daunting’ but Denver has a shot in each

The final three games of the Denver Broncos season are as difficult as any team in the NFL, purely based on win-loss record.

The Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, and New England Patriots all have 10 or more wins on the season, with a combined record of 31-8.

But the Broncos preached taking this next set one game at a time on Monday, with a crack at the AFC’s top team in New England up first.

“It’s just like any other game. Right now we’re worried about the Patriots,” said defensive end Derek Wolfe. “We’re not worried about Kansas City or Oakland. We’re worried about the Patriots. We have to beat the Patriots, and then we’ll move on from there.”

And despite the uphill battle Denver has to ensure a playoff berth, 9News Broncos Insider Mike Klis told “Schlereth and Evans” on Tuesday that he believes the club has a chance not only against the Patriots but in all three matchups.

“While the three games as a collection seem daunting and impossible, I think game by game the Broncos have got a chance in all of them. I think they’ve got a chance to beat New England this Sunday,” Klis said.

Klis said New England’s receiving corps is suspect, with Julian Edelman having five drops on the season and Rob Gronkowski out, and despite Brady playing at potentially an MVP-caliber level, “there’s still some flaws with the Patriots.”

“They’ll have to play great defense and try to win this game 20-18 like they did last year in the AFC playoffs,” Klis said. “I’m not sure they can play that good a defensive game against Brady, but then again, they don’t have Gronkowski to bail them out in the fourth quarter.”

And with a win Sunday, the Broncos whole dynamic down the final stretch against two divisional foes atop the AFC West will change, Klis said.

“They win that New England game, everything changes about the mood and the hopes and the chances for the Broncos,” Klis said

Either way, cornerback Chris Harris Jr. said Monday that December football is the “reason that we play the game,” and he’s geared up for a battle with the Patriots.

“We love the competition. If we’re going to do something, then we have to be great, so let’s be great,” Harris said.
