Klis: Signs point to Siemian out, Lynch starts again for Broncos

After a walking boot, and more specifically the sprained foot within it, kept Trevor Siemian off the field on Sunday in Jacksonville, Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak delivered some encouraging news Monday.

The second-year pro is “doing a lot better” and he’s ditched the boot.

So does that mean Siemian will be back under center this Sunday on the road in Tennessee to play the Titans? Kubiak said he hopes so.

“I think we were hoping that he could go out there this past week, but he couldn’t. I think the fact that he’s been out of the boot all weekend, walking around in Jacksonville and moving around — it looks like he’s moving around well down there in the meetings. We’ll see,” Kubiak said.

Mike Klis, 9News Broncos Insider, is more skeptical that Siemian will be able to see the field Sunday in Nashville, telling 104.3 The Fan’s “The Drive” Monday that he believes the young quarterback is “more likely to not play than play.”

“To me, all the signs kind of point to Trevor being ready to go against New England. Give him two full weeks to recover,” Klis said. “I’m speculating a little bit this week, but all the signs point to (that).”

Klis said that he put Siemian’s chances at less than 50-50, that he needs to “fix up” that foot for another week before re-entering the action.

So that would likely mean rookie Paxton Lynch would take the reins for a third start this season, and a second in a row.

However, some have called for veteran backup Austin Davis to get the nod — including “The Drive” co-host Alfred Williams and Charles Johnson and Brandon Stokley from 104.3 The Fan’s “C.J. and Stokley” — after Lynch’s lackluster performance against the Jaguars on Sunday.

Lynch went just 12-of-24 for 104 yards and no touchdowns nor picks on Sunday.

“Hopefully Trevor Siemian can go. If not, you’ve got to go with Austin Davis. That’s the bottom line,” Stokley said Monday.

In three career games (two starts), Lynch has a 1-1 record with two touchdown passes, one interception, and an average of 165.7 yards per game.
