Pick 6 performance nets Broncos CB Roby AFC Player of the Week

Denver Broncos cornerback Bradley Roby certainly made his first starts of the season count.

Filling in for an injured Aqib Talib, Roby captured his first AFC Defensive Player of the Week honor of his career in Week 8, and the Broncos second such recognition this season.

Roby grabbed seven tackles and had two passes defensed. But his 49-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter put Denver up 10-7, a lead the team would not relinquish.

Head coach Gary Kubiak said after the game that Talib’s back had bothered him all week and tightened up on the cornerback Saturday. And Roby, who joined 104.3 The Fan’s “The Drive” on Tuesday, said the veteran defensive back gave him a heads up that he might be filling in on Sunday.

“He just let me know, ‘Hey, there’s a good chance man. My back’s kind of hurting. I’m not feeling like I might be at my best tomorrow. So just be ready,’” Roby said. “So I just took that night to prepare a little bit harder and go over some of the things I wouldn’t normally look at because I’m not starting.”

The pick six was the first of Roby’s career and the second defensive touchdown of his career, the first was a scoop and score to lead the Broncos to a win over the Chiefs in Week 2 last season.
