Broncos DeMarcus Ware to undergo surgery, out 4-5 weeks

Denver Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware will miss at least a month as the pass rusher will undergo surgery Tuesday on a fractured right forearm, head coach Gary Kubiak said Monday.

Ware suffered the injury early in the second half of Denver’s 34-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts Sunday when he collided with fellow pass rusher Von Miller while attempting to sack Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.

At that point, Ware had already secured a half-sack against Indianapolis to bring his two-game total to 2 early in the 2016 season.

Ware took to Twitter Monday to thank fans for well wishes:

Despite being out an estimated four to five weeks, Kubiak said he was encouraged by the prognosis, as Ware will not be lost for the season due to the injury.

“Obviously, we know that we’re going to get him back, so that’s very encouraging,” Kubiak

After the game, Miller said he expected his partner in pass-rushing crime to be able to make a speedy recovery because he’s come back from injuries in the recent past.

“I feel like D-Ware, he’s battled some injuries. He’ll be right back though. That’s just the type of pro that he is,” Miller said after the game Sunday. “He’ll be able to fight through it. He’ll be right back.”

Ware did not play during any of the team’s preseason games with a back injury, and the perennial all pro missed five regular season games for the same reason in 2015.

Stepping into Ware’s role will likely be outside linebacker Shane Ray, who scooped up a game-sealing fumble for a score Sunday off a strip sack from Von Miller. Shaq Barrett and Dekoda Watson will likely see more time in the outside linebacker rotation also.
