ESPN’s Gomez: Rockies among clubs linked to signing Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow fulfilled his childhood dream of playing in the NFL donning the orange and blue of the Denver Broncos.

But could his big league baseball ambitions land him in Colorado Rockies purple?

ESPN’s Pedro Gomez told “C.J. and Stokley” Friday that two MLB clubs could be interested in Tebow based on the draw the former Broncos quarterback would garner: the Atlanta Braves and the Colorado Rockies.

Gomez said no scouts he spoke with believed Tebow, who worked out in Los Angeles last week for representatives from 28 or 30 clubs, could make it in the pros as a prospect, but that his celebrity could draw crowds.

“The scouts I spoke to shook their heads saying not even college outfielders look like this,” Gomez said.

However, Gomez said the consensus was that a minor league team would sign Tebow because of his celebrity.

“Yes, there is a belief that somebody will sign him,” Gomez said, adding that the two teams most mentioned to him were the Braves and Rockies.

Atlanta, Gomez said, could be a landing spot for Tebow because of his ties with the south and the SEC conference and Colorado because of his time playing for the Broncos.

“Let’s say you make a million bucks, a million and a half. We’ll that’s money you can spend in your own player development,” Gomez said.

“The flipside would be, he gets an opportunity to try to make it. So each side would be gaining something.”
