Clough: Who’s at QB doesn’t make difference to Broncos defense

The Denver Broncos released Monday its first official depth chart of the 2016 season, but the document gives little insight into who’ll be taking the first snaps under center Thursday against the Chicago Bears.

Running with the No. 1 offense is both Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian, who have been battling for the starting role throughout training camp and not separated themselves enough to have distinctive roles as starter and backup.

But none of this matters to the defense, which returns nine of 11 starters from the top-ranked unit in 2015, Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan’s Sandy Clough said Monday morning.

“I don’t think there’s anybody on the defense that feels it makes any difference. They’re going to play just as well, regardless of who the starting quarterback is,” Clough said. “So you’re not going to get anybody privately or publicly to say, ‘Well, from the defense’s point of view, one is definitely preferable to the other.’”

The depth chart on the whole keeps starters rookie free, with the exception of fullback Andy Janovich, but the defense returns starters and a number of second-team defenders who played in Denver last season.

The only two defensive positions “share” a player, second-team nose tackle (Kyle Peko and Darius Kilgo) and second-team strong safety (Shiloh Keo and Will Parks).
