Report: Sean Payton to meet with Ejiro Evero as Vic Fangio heads South
Feb 2, 2023, 9:48 AM
After some speculation, former Broncos head coach Vic Fangio will not be the team’s next defensive coordinator.
Fangio will indeed take his talents to South Beach and join the Miami Dolphins as DC, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
After speaking with multiple teams about their defensive coordinator position, Vic Fangio has decided to join the Dolphins as their defensive coordinator and officially will accept the position on the Miami staff after the Super Bowl.

Since Fangio won’t formally accept the position until after the Super Bowl, that could explain some of the confusion in recent days about where he was headed. San Francisco had been floated, as well as a return to Denver.
Meanwhile, new Broncos head coach Sean Payton still needs a defensive coordinator of his own. And he already has a darn good one under contract. Veteran NFL reporter Mike Silver of Backstage Media has the details.
New Broncos coach Sean Payton and Ejiro Evero, still under contract as Broncos DC, will talk today about the possibility of him staying. Evero remains a HC candidate in Indy and Arizona and has strong DC interest elsewhere.

With the Colts and Cardinals jobs still open, Ejiro Evero could absolutely leave for a head-coaching gig elsewhere. NFL Network’s James Palmer reports there should be clarity in the next 48 hours, and also notes Evero has “crushed” his interviews.
The Broncos still haven’t officially announced the trade for Payton, but that’s expected to come at any moment. A press conference could be held as early as this coming Monday.
How the staff shapes up remains one of the biggest questions, but we know it won’t include Fangio and Evero’s status is firmly in flux.
