It sounds like Adam Schefter knows something we don’t about the Broncos

Sometimes, the top NFL insiders know something, they just can’t share it yet.

That could be the case for ESPN’s Adam Schefter regarding the Broncos head-coaching search. Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday, Schefter was asked where things stand with Denver.

It’s been an absolutely wild month-plus thus far of rumors, twists and turns, so it’s hard to keep up. While Schefter spends the majority of his time providing the latest on Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, what he says at the end is perhaps the most interesting (about the 1:10 mark).

“I think Denver’s shown that it’s willing to swing big,” Schefter says. “I think it will continue to swing big, whoever that is. Um, we’ll see what they’re going to do, Pat.”

But the smile and pause from Schefter say it all. He clearly wanted to say more, but couldn’t quite yet. Something is brewing with the Broncos, but Schefter doesn’t want to burn a source by sharing the information until everything is official.

“No, you have an answer. It’s right there. I saw it, it was sitting in your mouth,” McAfee says with a laugh.

When McAfee follows up about Sean Payton coaching next year, Schefter playfully deflects and McAfee puts a bow on the interview. The former NFL punter knew he wasn’t getting any more info, but Schefter’s face said it all.

Something’s up with the Broncos. And it feels like it’s something big. Until then, we will all just patiently wait for an answer.
