Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. is not playing Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder for personal reasons, according to the team.
Unfortunately, those reasons appear to be very serious.
Porter’s brother, Coban, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide and reckless driving on Sunday morning, according to The Denver Post. Coban was involved in a crash that killed a driver at 1:54 a.m., the newspaper reported. The incident happened at South University Boulevard and Buchtel Boulevard, near the University of Denver .
Coban is a member of the Denver Pioneers basketball team. He played in 28 games as a freshman, but is out this year due to a torn ACL. The Post’s Mike Singer is reporting Michael had nothing to do with the incident.
MPJ was not involved, the #Nuggets confirmed to @denverpost. https://t.co/PuuvnYgDwF

At this time, a police spokesman wouldn’t share any additional information with the Post about the crash.
The news came just before Sunday’s tipoff at Ball Arena. Neither Porter nor back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic will play. Jokic is out with a hamstring injury, missing his second-straight game.
