Report: Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero already on Texans radar

While the Broncos coaching search heats up, so do others around the NFL.
And one prominent coach on Denver’s staff in 2022 may get a shot to lead a team elsewhere, if the Broncos pass on his services.
We know defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero will interview with team CEO Greg Penner and his search committee this week, but they’ll have competition. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Texans are interested as well.
A few more #Texans requests: DeMeco Ryans of the #49ers and Jonathan Gannon of the #Eagles… plus #Broncos DC Ejiro Evero, sources say.
Plenty of impressive young names. https://t.co/FnDiM1dmYU

Houston fired Lovie Smith on Sunday night after just one season at the helm. They did the same with David Culley in 2021. Now, they may look Evero’s way, desperate to turn around their entire operation after a 3-13-1 season. The Texans did beat Indianapolis in the final minute on Sunday, costing the franchise the No. 1 draft pick. They’ll select No. 2 overall, with 3-14 Chicago “earning” the top selection.
The Broncos defense was the strength of the team for nearly the entire year, with Evero’s unit consistently holding good offenses to low outputs. Denver gave up just 320 yards of offense per game, the seventh best in the NFL. They surrendered 21.1 points on average, a number that was inflated over the final five weeks with Denver clearly out of contention.
The defense held the Texans to nine points, 49ers to 10 points, Colts to 12 points, Ravens to 10 points and Cardinals to 15 points. They played three overtime games, and had the Broncos right there to win at least five others. Nathaniel Hackett didn’t get fired because the Broncos defense was bad, quite the opposite in fact; the offense was so inept it couldn’t capitalize on a great defense.
So now, Evero may get a shot to lead the Broncos. Or it may come somewhere else. The Texans are the first to put in a call, with more teams likely dialing soon.
