Will Jerry Jeudy get fined or suspended for bumping an official on Sunday?

Dec 12, 2022, 12:30 PM

Jerry Jeudy had the best game of his NFL career on Sunday.

The former Alabama star caught three touchdown passes against the Chiefs, as the Broncos battled back from a 27-0 deficit and nearly stunned Kansas City.

However, when things weren’t going well early, Jeudy was not a happy camper. After a play went awry and he didn’t get the football, Jeudy had a bit of a meltdown. That included on an official, who Jeudy yelled at and ultimately bumped. The Broncos wide receiver wanted a flag that was never thrown.

It’s not a good look for Jeudy, at all. You simply can’t touch a referee no matter how upset you are. The fact he wasn’t flagged 15-yards or even ejected from the game is surprising. How he got away with that behavior with no consequences in the moment doesn’t make sense.

However, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio is reporting that Jeudy will pay the price (literally) and could even miss a game. Here’s what Florio wrote about the incident on Monday morning.

Suspending Jeudy now would be the NFL making up for a mistake on Sunday. That would be a weak look, basically causing Jeudy to miss next week’s game against Arizona, because their official didn’t do the right thing in the moment.

A fine — and likely a big one — is totally warranted. Again, you can’t make contact with a ref. It’s one of the most widely known rules in all of sports. Jeudy’s three touchdowns will be what Broncos fans remember from that game against the Chiefs, but the final story of his day at Mile High appears yet to be written.

We’ll keep you posted.
