The Nuggets needed a win in the worst way. Having lost three straight, Denver went into Portland on Thursday night scuffling.
For most of the night, it didn’t look like it was going to happen. The Trail Blazers used a 36-point third quarter to take a 10-point lead heading into the final period.
But the Nuggets wouldn’t go away. Behind 33 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists from Nikola Jokic, Denver hung around.
They took a 118-117 lead late, only to have Damian Lillard deliver a dagger. The Blazers sharpshooter hit a deep three-pointer with 18 seconds to play to give Portland a two-point lead, seemingly erasing the Nuggets valiant comeback. But then, Jamal Murray saved the day.
