The Colorado Buffaloes are making a splash, hiring a longtime college assistant coach to become their defensive coordinator.
Deion Sanders is adding Charles Kelly to CU’s staff, according to Brian Howell of the Boulder Daily Camera.
Kelly, a current co-defensive coordinator at Alabama and former defensive coordinator of Florida State, will boost a Buffs staff already full of big names. Kelly, 55, has been coaching college football on and off since the early 1990s.

Kelly joins Tim Brewster on staff, who led the Minnesota Golden Gophers for a time, who is now CU’s tight ends coach—a role he had with the Denver Broncos a decade ago. The Buffs also got Sean Lewis to walk away from his current head coaching gig with Kent State to become the offensive coordinator.
Some prior reports pegged Mike Zimmer as the CU’s DC but those weren’t true. Still Zimmer and other big names could be joining Coach Prime in Boulder.
