Brett Rypien’s spell of Russell Wilson seems like it may end just as quickly as it started.

Nathaniel Hackett said after the game on Sunday that Wilson looks to be “on track” to play in London against the Jaguars in Week 8. With Wilson being such a star globally and being very public about his love of travel, it would be big for the quarterback to get to that stage.

Wilson was inactive in the Broncos’ Week 7 16-9 loss to the Jets due to a hamstring injury he suffered in the game prior. Rypien came in and threw 46 passes for 24 yards and 25 completions, tossing one interception and no touchdowns.

The maligned Broncos offense could use a healthy Wilson, who has suffered from shoulder and hamstring injuries this month. Denver’s offense has scored just 14.3 points per contest.

But it also wouldn’t be surprising to see Wilson sit another week, given the long flight to London and the bye week that follows for Denver. The decision to jet or not would need to come early in the week, with the Broncos slate to fly on Tuesday.

Wilson was traded to Denver for a massive package this past spring. Since he’s struggled in his first few weeks for the Broncos. In six games, he’s thrown five touchdowns, three picks, and 240.3 per game. He’s also not seemed to be as mobile as he once was, but maybe some of that has been the hamstring injury hampering him.

The loss to the Jets was Rypien first start and appearance of the year. Oddly his only other NFL start also came against the Jets, a win in 2020.
