The Colorado Buffaloes are now the consensus worst team in the country

Oct 12, 2022, 11:58 AM

Colorado State topped Nevada last Friday, making the Rams’ southerly brothers the only winless team in major college football. With that, both ESPN and CBS Sports have named the Colorado Buffaloes the worst team in college football in their weekly poll of programs in disarray.

The Buffs were on a bye week this past weekend, re-grouping and implementing new strategies under interim head coach Mike Sanford after Karl Dorrell was fired about 10 days ago. Colorado is prepping for a home game against California(3-2) on Saturday. The Buffaloes are multi-score underdogs for the matchup.

CBS wrote about the Buffs, moving them from the country’s second-worst to the biggest loser spot:

“Colorado had the week off and had to sit at home and watch Colorado State win a game, pushing the Buffaloes to No. 1 in the rankings. If that doesn’t sum up the Buffs’ season so far, I don’t know what will. The only thing we can do is root for them to get their first win of the season too. The next chance is this week at home against Cal.”

Meanwhile, ESPN penned:

The good news? The Buffs didn’t lose this week. The bad news? It’s because they didn’t play. The worse news? When the team got together for breakfast during its off weekend, the Buffs ran out of butter and jelly, which meant they still failed to cover the spread.

The Buffaloes are not just 0-5 but 0-5 against the spread, as oddsmakers struggle to catch up to just how bad they are this season. Hawaii was named the second-worst team in the country in both polls, while CSU improved to fourth-worst on CBS and the Rams jumped out of the bottom of ESPN’s poll and into the outside looking in.

The Buffaloes have never had a winless season in over 130 years of football.
