The Denver Broncos have another primetime game coming this Sunday, hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night.
Oddsmakers opened the line at -2 in favor of the Broncos, but that has already flipped in favor of the 49ers on most sites. On some, the Broncos are still liked or viewed as a pick ’em.
What’s interesting about the way the line was set and moved is this: it was already known that 49ers backup Jimmy Garoppolo would be starting with usual QB1 Trey Lance done for the year due to an ankle injury he suffered in Sunday’s game. However, some view Garoppolo as better than Lance anyway. Not only are the 49ers with a “backup” quarterback, but from when the line opened until now, we learned that both Jerry Jeudy and Patrick Surtain II have gotten positive news on their injuries, which ended their days early against the Texans.
While the information has moved in favor of Denver, the odds are now in the 49ers favor.
Each team enters the week 1-1, but San Francisco is coming off a blowout win over the Seahawks, who dealt the Broncos their loss. The 49ers loss was a late-game collapse in a puddle-filled Solider Field. At the same time, Denver has struggled and thrown away opportunities in both of their contests.
The teams are 7-7 all-time against one another in the regular season, but the Super Bowl XXIV opponents have not met since 2018. San Francisco defended the Bay in that contest and have won three of the last four head-to-heads dating back to 2006.
