Broncos will be without a starter on Monday, defender downgraded to out

The Denver Broncos will be without one of their starting linebackers on opening night in Seattle, as Josey Jewell was downgraded to out for Monday’s game in Seattle, the team announced on Sunday.

Jewell was listed as doubtful earlier this week, with a calf injury limiting the fifth-year Bronco and holding him from practice on Friday and Saturday.

Alex Singleton, who had over 120 tackles each of the last two seasons for the Eagles, is likely to take most of Jewell’s playing time.

The Broncos could also be without some other key pieces. According to the team, outside linebacker Randy Gregory (shoulder/knee), wide receiver KJ Hamler (knee/hip), and offensive lineman Billy Turner (knee) remain listed as questionable.

Jewell started 16 games in 2020, recording 113 tackles, five for a loss, and two sacks. A pectoral injury derailed his 2021 season. With the Broncos already looking for other linebackers throughout training camp, it’s a position the team is a bit light at, making Jewell’s health all the more important.
