Cale Makar celebrates Cup by sillily sipping Slurpee from Stanley, seriously

Aug 11, 2022, 5:15 PM

The championship celebration continued for the Colorado Avalanche this week.

Stanley Cup Playoff MVP, winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy, Cale Makar got his turn with Lord Stanley. And the Avs 23-year-old superstar lived out both relived his childhood experiences and a funny story from his past. The pure-hearted Makar once told ESPN’s Emily Kaplan that his big summer splurge was treating himself to a sugary Slurpee. So what’s better than the cool, refreshing drink out of one of the world’s most famous cups?

We have no word on how much 7-Eleven charges for bringing your own Stanley Cup to the Slurpee machine, in case you find yourself in that spot.

“You can’t get better than Crowchild,” Makar said of his local rink to a reporter. “I feel like Crowchild’s had such a good pipeline of so many players, like (Dillon) Heatherington, (Matt) Dumba. The list goes on and on where guys are playing NCAA or professionally, and it’s awesome.”

Makar swinging by with the cup Thursday was apparently the biggest event anyone had ever seen at the rink.

Makar’s day follows Logan O’Connor’s, which the two shared together in Alberta. The two stopped by the children’s hospital, drove a classic car, and jumped on a fire boat.

Every Avs player gets a day with the cup, and of course, Makar was one of the biggest stars to get his turn. The three years he’s spent in the NHL have already seen him become of the more decorated players in league history, taking home the Norris Trophy for best defenseman in the world this past season.
