The latest news on the Avs and Nuggets returning to Comcast is not great

Jul 15, 2022, 11:38 AM | Updated: 11:47 am

By now, you’re sick of it.

We’re all sick of it.

The ongoing dispute between Altitude and Comcast that has kept the Avalanche, Nuggets and Rapids blacked out the last three seasons doesn’t appear to be ending soon. The two sides had a second mediation attempt earlier this week regarding their antitrust lawsuit and reached no resolution.

With the 2022-23 seasons just a couple of months away for the Avs and Nuggets, it’s a real possibility the games will be off Comcast for a fourth straight season. It’d be indefensible if the teams were bad, but it’s even more infuriating considering the Avalanche just won the Stanley Cup and the Nuggets have the back-to-back MVP in Nikola Jokic.

“We appreciate the court’s efforts to facilitate these conversations,” Comcast spokeswomen Leslie Oliver told The Denver Post. “We are fans of the Avs, Nuggets and Rapids, and we share the Colorado hockey fans’ excitement around the Avs amazing Stanley Cup win. We’ve presented options for some time to Altitude for how we could carry the games without raising rates for all Comcast customers. And we continue to remain open to continuing discussions with Altitude.”

Altitude and KSE have not commented recently on the situation, outside of Josh Kroenke’s press conference last month in which he dodged the tough TV questions, according to our own Dan Jacobs.

On Friday, The Denver Post’s Kyle Frederickson did some digging into court documents, and confirmed Magistrate Judge Michael E. Hegarty said no agreement between Comcast and Altitude was reached. The only encouraging aspect is that the court “will continue to work with the parties toward a resolution of the case.”

Obviously, this whole thing is ridiculous and needs to be resolved ASAP. Unfortunately, that doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon. The latest update is more of a no update, with fans still caught in the middle.
