Game 3 aftermath: Binnington done for series, Kadri won’t face discipline

May 22, 2022, 12:47 PM

The day after the madness, Game 3 is still on everyone’s mind.

The Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues played a wild one on Saturday night, with the Avs prevailing 5-2 to take a 2-1 series lead. But there was so much more to it, with Sam Girard breaking his sternum and being out for the playoffs, Blues goalie Jordan Binnington getting injured and water-bottle-gate postgame.

A few house cleaning notes, the most important of which that Binnington is now out for the series.

This means backup goalie Ville Husso will be in net the rest of the way for St. Louis. Husso was actually the Blues’ No. 1 goalie for a long stretch of the regular season, posting a very good 25-7-6 record while giving up 2.56 goals per game.

The play in which Binnington got hurt was unfortunate and unlucky, but would have been a non-story if it weren’t for Avs center Nazem Kadri being involved in the collision. Kadri, who has a lengthy history of suspensions, won’t get in any trouble for this one. Nor should he.

This didn’t help the mood of the Blues on Sunday at practice, as several were visibly ticked off. It’s slightly bizarre, considering one of their own sent Girard to the hospital, but here’s a sample of the reaction from 104.3 The Fan’s DMac reporting in St. Louis.

This adds layers and layers of drama to Game 4 on Monday night, with the Avs on the verge of knocking the Blues out for a second straight season.

Stay tuned, because this roller coaster ride has just begun.
