Colorado Avalanche defenseman Samuel Girard was hurt on his first shift of Game 3 against the St. Louis Blues.
A big hit from Ivan Barbashev behind the Avs’ goal bloodied the 24-year-old defenseman.
Girard is listed with an upper-body injury and will not return on Saturday. He was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation, according to the Avalanche.
In his fifth NHL season this year, Girard played in 67 games. He recorded 28 points and has played in all six of Colorado’s playoff games thus far, adding three points.
The Blues took an early lead a few minutes later, and the Avs answered back after one of their key players got injured.
