The Denver Broncos had back-to-back picks in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. At No. 115, they selected cornerback Damarri Mathis from the University of Pittsburgh, and with the 116th pick, the club added defensive end Eyioma Uwazurike from Iowa State.

Mathis, a 5-foot-11, 196-pound defensive back, ran a 4.39 40-yard dash and grabbed two interceptions in college last fall. The honorable mention All-ACC player is from Lakeland, Florida.

Uwazurike, a 6-foot-6, 316 pounder, recorded nine sacks last fall and 12 tackles for a loss. Over his career as a Cyclone Uwazurike had 34.5 tackles for a loss, ranking third in school history.

“I have the right amount of strength, speed and quickness,” Uwazurike said. “I’m not just a one-trick pony.”

“I didn’t know I was on the Broncos’ list,” Uwazurike said. “It was shocking to see. When I got that call from Denver, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”

The two picks are the first of day three for the Broncos and add to their haul from day two of Nik Bonitto from Oklahoma and Greg Dulcich from UCLA.

Best players still available on day three of the 2022 NFL Draft

Denver Broncos general manager George Paton made me quite happy on day two of the 2022 NFL Draft. They didn’t have a first-round pick, and their first pick at No. 64 overall was a spot I thought they’d trade up from. I even wrote at DenverFan.com that in order to get a pass-rusher like Nik […]
