The AFC west continues to load up on edge rushers.
The Kansas City Chiefs strengthened their defense on Thursday night twice in the NFL Draft’s first round. They traded up to add corner Trent McDuffie, then took George Karlaftis at No. 30.
At 6-foot-4, 275 pounds, Karlaftis will likely team up with Chris Jones on the other side. Between Maxx Crosby, Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack, the Broncos foes are making a point to come after the quarterback. That checks out, considering the signal-callers in the division between Russell Wilson, Justin Herbert, Derek Carr and Patrick Mahomes are among the best in the NFL.
On Thursday, the Chiefs used their assets to get stronger at both getting after the quarterback and breaking up passes.
Karlaftis had 14 sacks in his 26-game college career and picked up 97 tackles, 29 of which were for a loss.
