Will Nuggets point guard Jamal Murray return this season?
That continues to be the question as the Nuggets have just one game to go in the regular season before the playoffs begin. Team President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly joined Tyler Polumbus and DMac on “The Drive” on Friday afternoon and said the decision is completely up to Murray.
“100 percent. 100 percent,” Connelly said when DMac asked if it’s up to Murray if he wants to play or not this year.
The man in charge of the Nuggets then expanded on his comments extensively.
“When you’re dealing with a major injury, you want to do everything in the organization’s power to ensure rehab is handled well and the guy is physically where he needs to be,” Connelly said. “We’ve told Jamal this entire year, we’ll tell you when you’re physically ready and you got to tell us when you want to get out there. We want him to feel really no pressure, we want him to know the organization has his best interests in mind. When he’s ready, he’ll get back out there. He’s done a great job rehabbing, he looks really, really good and I know he’s chomping at the bit to get back out there.”
Murray’s been out since April 12, 2021 when he tore his ACL in his left knee against the Warriors. The Nuggets wrap up the regular season on Sunday against the Lakers and will be the No. 5 or 6 seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
It will be very interesting to see if Murray is out there for Game 1 of the postseason. We now know it’s totally his call.
