Avalanche add two players right before NHL trade deadline passes

With just an hour to go before the NHL trade deadline on Monday, Avalanche GM Joe Sakic has made two more trades.

Colorado announced on its Twitter the team is acquiring Artturi Lehkonen from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for prospect Justin Barron and a second-round draft pick in 2024.

Lehkonen has played all six seasons of his career thus far in Montreal, tallying 74 goals and 75 assists. The left-winger had 13 goals and 16 assists for Montreal in 58 games so far this season. Barron was the Avalanche’s first-round pick in 2020, selected No. 25 overall in that year’s NHL Draft.

Moments after the Lehkonen trade was announced, Colorado made another move. Multiple reports say the team traded for veteran Andrew Cogliano from the San Jose Sharks.

In 1,122 games played, Cogliano hs 174 career goals and 251 assists. The Avs reportedly gave up a fifth-round draft pick in 2024 for his services.

Sakic already added Josh Manson from the Anaheim Ducks and Nico Sturm from the Wild in the last week. Colorado is currently first in the Western Conference with 93 points.
