Broncos wide receiver Trinity Benson is having an eye-opening camp

Jerry Jeudy garners cheers almost every day. K.J. Hamler, Tim Patrick and Courtland Sutton have their moments, as well.
But none of that is a big surprise. Those four wide receivers are locks to make the team; they’re the pass catchers the Broncos will be counting on this season.
Beyond them, there aren’t really any household names on the roster, however. There certainly aren’t many who fans are expecting to contribute in 2021.
But after the first couple weeks of training camp, that notion might need to change. Day after day, one player keeps making plays. Time after time, No. 12 is getting open, hauling in a pass and raising eyebrows.
On day one, Trinity Benson caught a deep ball from Drew Lock. Friday, it was a sideline route from Teddy Bridgewater.
Aside from Jeudy, he’s arguably been the Broncos most-consistent receiver during training camp. At some point, it’s hard to ignore his repeated production. Benson’s head coach has certainly noticed.
“The biggest reason is he’s been here three years, with two years spent on the practice squad, so all that work is paying off,” Vic Fangio said after Friday’s practice. “Trinity always could run. Now, he’s a better receiver. He’s polished, knows what to do and how to do it.”
What does that mean for Benson? Well, it could be good news.
“He’s in the hunt,” Fangio said when asked about the wideout’s chances of making the roster.
It’s still early. The joint practices with the Vikings next week will be crucial. So will the preseason games. But if the start of training camp is any indication of what’s to come, this year’s roster surprise could’ve already revealed itself.
Trinity Benson makes plays on a daily basis. It’s impossible not to notice.
