Clayton: Definitive decision upcoming for Aaron Rodgers
Jul 12, 2021, 4:40 PM
The latest on Aaron Rodgers could be either good news or bad news for the Denver Broncos.
Rodgers said over the weekend that he plans to train hard over the next two weeks and then make a decision on what he wants to do this year. Clearly, he wants to play. He definitely has a mistrust with the Green Bay Packers front office. But he wants to make a decision before the start of training camp.
Whatever decision he makes is going to be what he’s going to stick with. If he holds out and stays with his position of not wanting to play for the Packers, he should stick with that into the regular season, leaving Green Bay to decide if they will trade him or just let him miss the season. Of course, that means the Packers will be lucky to win six or seven games without him.
But he also could go to camp and forget about his efforts to leave. He’d make his money but also would put the Packers back in the Super Bowl race.
For the Broncos, at least should they know if they are going to be in or out on the possibility of getting Rodgers this year. If he decides to stay away from the Packers, that could be great news for the Broncos. If the Packers accept he won’t be there, they might consider trading him before the start of the regular season.
If the Broncos could get Rodgers before the start of the season, they would immediately become Super Bowl contenders. According to Pro Football Focus, the Broncos currently have the 10th best roster in football. PFF has them as the sixth best team for pass catchers. Making things even more encouraging is that the Broncos have the fifth easiest schedule in football. Many think if Rodgers starts the regular season in Denver, they could go 10-1 or 11-0.
Whatever Rodgers decides, this will be definitive.
