Rockies projected to have worst record in baseball in 2021

The Colorado Rockies already faced one of the darkest offseasons in recent memory, but the outlook of the 2021 season doesn’t show any light at the end of the tunnel.
According to PECOTA (which stands for Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm), the Rockies are projected to have a season record around 60-102, projecting them to be the worst team in major league baseball.
According to MLB.com, PECOTA is Baseball Prospectus’ system for projecting player performance and is used primarily for projecting the performance of individual players, but can be applied to entire teams as well to project records. It uses predicted depth charts to establish the projected runs for and against each team, before gleaning a projected win total from that.
The Rockies’ projected 60-102 record sets the team to come in last place in the NL West, with the San Francisco Giants (75-87), Arizona Diamondbacks (79-83), San Diego Padres (96-66) and Los Angeles Dodgers (103-59) all comfortably ahead of Colorado.
If the Rockies projection of 102 losses comes to fruition in the 2021 season, it would be the first time in franchise history to have 100 losses in a season. The last time Colorado came close to 100 losses was in 2012 when the Rockies finished the season 64-98.
The only other team in the majors to be projected to have 100 losses during the 2021 campaign are the Pittsburgh Pirates (61-101).
