Boselli calls Munchak ‘one of the best,’ ‘a great hire’ for Broncos

A finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame as an offensive tackle this year, Tony Boselli’s praise for new Denver Broncos offensive line coach Mike Munchak carries some heft.

And on Thursday, the Westwood One analyst told “Pritchard and Cecil” that Munchak is among the elite when it comes to coaching the offensive line in the NFL, and the Broncos are better off with him on the staff.

“He is one of the best,” Boselli said. “Go look at what he did with the Steelers’ offensive line.”

This season alone, Munchak helped three Pittsburgh Steelers players — guard David DeCastro, center Maurkice Pouncey, and tackle Alejandro Villanueva — to Pro Bowl selections.

“He will get that group working together and on the same page. I thought it was a great hire,” Boselli said.

The comments come just two weeks after “Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mark Schlereth said the Munchak hire may be the most important by the organization this offseason, calling it an “admission” by the Broncos that there are issues with the offensive line that need correcting.

“We understand that the biggest issue we have has been our offensive line,” Schlereth said. “We can talk about the quarterback. We can talk about the running game. We can talk about the tight ends. We can talk about the receivers. But the bottom line is we weren’t winning the line of scrimmage enough.”

Boselli also touted the Broncos choice for head coach, Vic Fangio, whom he said may not have been the most popular hire but one that he loves.

“Vic Fangio is a really good football coach, and I thought him going after Munchak in a strong way was genius,” Boselli said. “The Broncos are going to be a better football team because of those two guys.”

Fangio also earned praise from former Chicago Bears linebacker and Pro Football Hall of Famer Brian Urlacher on Thursday, who told “Pritchard and Cecil” he was “very sad to see him leave Chicago.”
