Should the Broncos look at trading Von Miller this offseason?

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and the 6-7 Denver Broncos, staring at possibly a third straight season without making the playoffs, appear to be in dire straits.

With that in mind, the idea of trading prolific pass rusher Von Miller, an idea championed this past offseason by “Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley, has resurfaced.

“Are we just going to keep on going right here with no quarterback and being a middle of the road football team? Is that good enough?” Stokley said on Friday. “Or are you going to do something drastic here to try to jumpstart this thing and get it heading in the right direction in a big way? Not in a little way. In a big way.”

Stokley’s comments come after “The Drive” co-host Alfred “Big Al” Williams became the latest convert to the idea on Thursday, saying the Broncos cannot continue to be a middling NFL football team.

“You have to do something drastic to change the outlook of this team. So, what’s drastic? Trading Von Miller is drastic,” Williams said.

It is a “wildly unpopular opinion,” said Stokley’s co-host, Zach Bye. But Bye said more and more people have come on board with the thinking.

“I’m seeing more and more people think it through. And after watching these Broncos for a couple of years now be lackluster, I’m seeing more and more people come over to that rationale of thinking,” Bye said.

In order to make a “huge jump,” everyone on the Broncos roster must be on the table, Stokley said.

“If you’re in John Elway’s position, everybody is tradeable. Everybody is open to being discussed when you’re looking to try to better your football team,” Stokley said. “You’re trying to take another step forward, a big step forward, sometimes you’ve got to look at your best players and say we’ve got to part with this guy to try to take it to the next level.”

With that, Stokley said that it is imperative that the Broncos find a franchise quarterback and surround him with pieces, and the only way to do that is “trade a guy like Von Miller.”

“Without Von Miller, now you free up cap room, you can go out and be aggressive in free agency, and on top of that you’ll accumulate a lot of draft picks to try to build this team and be able to work some other trades and maybe find that quarterback that you’re looking for,” Stokley said.
