Broncos rookie LT Bolles week-to-week with bone bruise

UPDATE: Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph said rookie left tackle Garett Bolles has only a deep bone bruise in his lower left leg and the first-rounder did not sprain it.

Joseph said the club was “very lucky” the injury wasn’t more serious.

“We dodged a bullet in my opinion,” he said.

Bolles is week-to-week as he recovers from the injury.

The Denver Broncos have appeared to dodge yet another bullet in regard to injuries, as rookie first-rounder Garett Bolles reportedly has a high ankle sprain and/or a deep bone bruise.

Mike Klis of KUSA-TV reports that the left tackle avoided breaking his ankle, as the team feared, and instead will be out just a couple of weeks.

Bolles reportedly underwent an MRI on Monday after he left via a cart in the third quarter of the Broncos 42-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

The lumbering lineman was seen leaving the locker room after the game in a walking boot on his left leg and using crutches.

Through a little more than a game and a half, Bolles ranked 36th in the NFL among all tackles according to Pro Football Focus, the best among grade among all the tackles in his draft class, including fellow first-rounder Ryan Ramczyk.

Veteran guard Allen Barbre, not backup tackle Donald Stephenson, played in relief Bolles, a move Joseph said has been the plan all along.

“That’s been the plan for the last two weeks, dressing Barbre and playing him some at left guard with Max (Garcia), and if we had an injury with the tackle position, left or right, he would slide in,” Joseph said. “He’s played most of his career at tackle. So, he was our best option for this game tonight.”
