Denver Broncos safety Will Parks reportedly faces misdemeanor harassment and non-violent domestic violence charges after an arrest in March following an incident with his former girlfriend.
Mike Klis of 9News reports that Parks, 22, was arrested on March 31, a week after Brighton police were dispatched to the woman’s home.
The woman said Parks accused her of taking his Social Security card, birth certificate, and football memorabilia, Klis reports, citing an arrest affidavit filed in Adams County. Park continued to make menacing phone calls, the woman reportedly told police, including threats to have his cousin “beat her ass.”
In a statement made to 9News, the Broncos said, “We became aware of the issue involving Will Parks immediately after it occurred in March. It was promptly reported to the league office, and we are continuing to monitor the matter.”
The report comes in a week already swirling with controversy surrounding the second-year defensive back. Earlier this week, Parks posted two videos to his personal Snapchat that featured Broncos practice film of two errant passes from quarterback Paxton Lynch.
On Wednesday, “Stokley & Zach” co-host and former Broncos wide receiver Brandon Stokley called for the team to suspend Parks for the remainder of the offseason, especially if the social media posts were a dig directed toward the second-year quarterback.
“This is the first big test for Vance Joseph. How are you going to handle this?” Stokley said. “You have to send a message to the defense and to the offense. ‘Hey, offense, I’ve got your back.”
Parks, who also had a restraining order filed against him, is due in Adams County Court on June 30.
