Doug Krieger, aquatic section manager of the aquatic nuisance species & boating program joins Terry to talk about funding and tax revenue. Doug tells Terry the state needed to pay back energy companies and had to cut funding, and Terry says it’s impacting boating all across the United States. Doug highlights problems with infestation & mitigation, and maintaining negative status. Terry brings up where people could have picked up muscles & brought them to Colorado, and the water is typically owned by private entities. Inspections and funding have come a long way, but some high-elevation waters like Green Mountain need funding. Also, Doug wants to maintain the quality that boaters have come to enjoy, and warns listeners about boat plug fees & inspections for 2017.
