Report: CBS joins Fox on list of networks pursuing Tony Romo

Mar 24, 2017, 3:12 PM | Updated: Mar 12, 2023, 7:51 pm

When ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported earlier this month that Fox Sports was interested in bringing in current Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo as a replacement for color analyst John Lynch, he mentioned “other networks” were also interested.

And much like the two-team race between the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans to secure Romo’s services — should he opt to continue playing — a second network has been revealed.

Schefter tweeted Friday afternoon that CBS is “making a strong push add him to its team.”

The update on Romo comes just more than two weeks after Schefter and ESPN NFL reporter Todd Archer reported that the long-time Cowboys gunslinger would be released by Dallas at the start of free agency.

However, a day later, as the league kicked off its new year on March 9, reports began to surface that Dallas would not release Romo and instead look to trade him.

Romo has since remained under contract with the Cowboys and has not spoken publically except for an Instagram post saying farewell to his fans in Dallas.

And because Romo hasn’t spoken out, Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan’s Brandon Stokley said on Thursday that he thinks the 13-year NFL veteran could be contemplating hanging ‘em up.

“I think he retire,” Stokley said. “I think he is done playing football, concerned about his long-term health, and the more that I look at this situation, the more it makes sense.”

Stokley said if he were in the same shoes — wanting to still play and having your chance to move on to another team stalled — he wouldn’t be so quiet, especially because of importance of developing relationships with new teammates and giving his input on the offense.

“You get to training camp, and the Denver Broncos have their offense already in,” Stokley said.
