Among the issues the Denver Broncos have faced in the 2016 campaign — a year in which the club will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2010 — is running the ball.
In just one game this season, Denver rushed for more than 150 yards — Week 7 against the Houston Texans — while being held under the century mark nine times in 15 games.
Heading into the final week of the season, the Broncos rank 28th in the NFL in rushing yards (1,341) and yards per carry (3.6).
But the club could take a page out of the Indianapolis Colts playbook to attack the Oakland Raiders, and it’s 12th-ranked rushing defense, on Sunday.
Last week against Oakland, the Indianapolis Colts had some success in the run game, with veteran Frank Gore rushing for 73 yards on 13 carries.
In this week’s “Inside the Game,” former Broncos tackle and 104.3 The Fan’s Tyler Polumbus fills in for Mark Schlereth to break down one of Gore’s long, effective runs.
The Super Bowl 50 champion illustrates how Denver can use the Oakland defensive weaknesses to its advantage on the ground by utilizing motion and counter flow to gash the Raiders.
