Does Broncos’ WR Taylor’s catch rank among best ever?

Aug 1, 2016, 6:00 PM

“Sunshine” is clearly a reference to the movie “Remember the Titans,” but Denver Broncos wide receiver

Jordan Taylor’s dazzling catches may add more meaning to the nickname.

Early in training camp, the Broncos wide out made the catch of the young NFL year so far, albiet during practice.

But, where does it rank among the greatest catches of all time? Is it Odell Beckham Jr. worthy? David Tyree?

DMac, host of “The Drive” on 104.3 The Fan, called it the greatest catch anyone’s seen at the Broncos headquarters at Dove Valley.

But “Schlereth and Evans” host Mike Evans took it one step farther Monday morning, calling it perhaps the greatest catch he’s ever seen.

“It was better than Odell Beckham’s, just as a catch. His came in a game. This was in practice, but still it was maybe the greatest catches I’ve ever seen,” Evans said.

Certainly, that’s lofty heights to reach, especially for a reception that will never show up in a box score or stat sheet.

“I’m just saying, just the act of catching a football. … I’m just saying, here’s a football, a thrown football, go up and catch it. I don’t know if you’ll find many better than that,” Evans said.

But Evan’s co-host, Mark Schlereth, downplayed the remarkable grab.

“That’s one of the great catches you’ll ever see, in practice. But you know what we’re talking about? Practice,” Schlereth said.

Cue the Iverson.

Praise for Sunshine, most known – until now – for being Peyton Manning’s practice partner during his 2015 rehab sting, wasn’t diminished, however.

“When you talk to people who have been around here for a while, Sunshine is one of those guys that everybody talks about, like, ‘I can’t way to see this guy get on the field,’” Schlereth said. “… I hear it. I saw last year. Now, obviously, I saw this catch. I’m looking forward to this guy getting a real opportunity to be a contributor.”
