Phil Pritchard, an important staffer at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, may be better known for his unofficial title: Keeper of the Cup.
Pritchard, who travels most places with Lord Stanley and has for decades, joined Coffee Break on Wednesday to chat about his summer with the Colorado Avalanche. It was the third time Pritchard was a part of an Avs Cup celebration, and he talked about some of the moments that stood out.
“From the moment they won the cup back in Tampa in late June, right through till today, which is opening day, it’s been a class organization, Pritchard said about the Avs. “We were at the ring ceremony the other night, and I was walking through with the team, kind of our overview of the summer, but the guys were great to deal with.”
He said about a dozen of the players had parades in their hometowns. He said Mikko Rantanen and Artturi Lehkonen had “overwhelming days” in Finland.
“In Turku, Finland, to have two guys from the same area to win it in the same year, that’s pretty remarkable.”
