Schefter: Broncos like Vic Fangio, could retain the head coach

Should the Denver Broncos opt to shake things up this offseason, Vic Fangio most likely will be the fall guy for the team’s shortcomings the past few years.
But there could be hope for the embattled head coach, says ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Joining “Schlereth & Evans” on Thursday, Schefter said the Broncos brass is keen on keeping Fangio around for a fourth season as head coach, though the ax could still be looming.
“The Broncos would like to keep Vic Fangio. They believe in him as a person and as a coach,” Schefter said. “I think they’d like to keep him.”
Schefter added the caveat, however, that Denver knows it’s the first team in NFL history to win a Super Bowl and miss the postseason the next six years.
“Now, to me, that’s not a Vic Fangio problem. That’s more of a quarterbacking or organizational problem,” Schefter said. “But someone usually takes the fall for that. And in this particular case, Vic is sitting in the prime slot to take the fall for that, if that’s what they decide to do.
“Now, again, I believe they want to keep him. I believe they like him. I still am not convinced they will (keep him), but we’ll see how this plays out over the weekend.”
